It’s very annoying when you have formated your windows and when loging on the first time, you’ll see MSN Messenger starting up. In case you want to remove MSN Messenger from Windows XP, you’ll find out that you can’t find it in the Add/Remove Programs. There is a couple ways to uninstall MSN Messenger. The one I always use and the easiest way is to follow the 4 steps below.
1. Go to Start
2. Go to Run
3. Copy this line (without ” “) “RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\inf\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove”.
4. Hit Enter and that’s it. It may require a reboot.
Another way is:
1. Search for sysoc.inf. It should be located in the C:\windows\inf\
2. Open en Edit the file with notepad. Find the following line by pressing CTRL+F and search for: “msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,hide,7″.
3. Now remove the word hide. Save the changes.
4. Open Add/Remove Software.
5. Click on Add/Remove Windows Components and you can remove MSN Messenger. You’ll notice that there are two Windows Messengerservices to remove everything.
6. You can now remove both Windows Messenger’s. I’ve never done this methode but it seems that there should be a bug with the check boxes but it still works.
