A new year, a new start and off course new resolutions! We all love to make new year’s resolution, but mostly we don’t stick to them and after a week or so we’ll forget the things which we had said! I’m just one of those people who always made a lot of new year’s resolutions and after a while I forgot them! I just said I was going to stick to my new year’s resolutions, but I was just too lazy to do something about it, or after a while I didn’t see the point to achieve the goal, they were unnecessary or “not needed” at that point for me!
Now it’s time to change, Maybe I started wrong with my new year’s resolutions: without having any plan, structure and most important thing: The courage to change a habit and achieve the goal! So, maybe it’s time to try it differently:
- Making new year’s resolution with a plan: don’t decide it on new year’s eve, but be sure and plan it well.
- Outline the plan: decide how you will deal with the temptations.
- Be realistic: strive for a goal that is attainable, such as avoiding it more often than you do now
- Make a “pro” and “Con” list: make a list to keep your motivation strong.
- Talk about it: tell people who will be there to support you when you need it.
- Reward yourself: celebrate your success by treating yourself to something that you enjoy that does not contradict your resolution
- Track your own progress: keep track of each small success you make toward reaching your larger goal and remember: short-term goals are easier to keep, and small accomplishments will help keep you motivated.
- Don’t get upset: Do the best you can each day, and take each day one at a time. Don’t get upset when something doesn’t go like you would like it too.
- Stick to it: Experts say it takes about 30 days for a new activity, such as exercising, to become a habit, and 6 months for it to become part of your personality. Your new healthful habits will become second-nature in no time.
- Keep trying: If your resolution has totally run out of steam by mid-February, don’t despair. Start over again! There’s no reason you can’t make a “New Year’s resolution” any time of year.
So like I said, it’s a new, fresh year and a very good moment to set up new year’s resolution which I can and wil achieve; And this time I’m going to stick to them with the help of the steps here above! So what are my new year’s resolutions??
- Getting my driving license. Yeah, I know, I’m 25 and I still haven’t my driving license. In the past I thought that I didn’t need it, but now I see that I’m going to need it! So tomorrow I’m going to call CBR (Centeraal Bureau Rijvaardigheidsbewijzen) to make an appointment for take an exam. I know that CBR is a bit busy and that the appointment is going to be somewhere in February (or later), So I have enough time to learn the theory of driving. After that I’ll get driving lessons once (or twice that depends on how busy I’m) a week.
- Eat healthy and move my body. What do I need to say more about this? Right now I don’t move that often as I would like to. From now on I’ll take my bike when I have to go to work: Eindhoven Airport, to the internship company and to school. Also I’m going to eat even more healthier food than what I eat now! So no more fatty McDonald shit for me anymore!
- Getting my degree. As you may have reading, I’m busy graduating off school. Just a few months and I’m save! Till then, I have to stick to school!
- Spending more time on house holding and Jannie. Jannie and me live together in our new house for like 7 months, and I feel that I should do more in house holding and spending more time with Jannie.
- Enjoying life. I’m going to enjoy life even more as I do right now! I mean, there are a lot of things in our lives which we just do and see without thinking and enjoying it! We should be grateful for the things we got and enjoy the little things in life!
And last but not least, some interesting facts about New Years resolutions:
- 63% of people say they are keeping their resolutions after two months.
- 67% of people make three or more resolutions.
- Top four resolutions:
- Increase exercise.
- Be more conscientious about work or school.
- Develop better eating habits.
- Stop smoking, drinking, or using drugs (including caffeine) - People make more resolutions to start a new habit than to break an old one.
