Even since I’ve got my computer back, I’ve tried to get Adobe Illustrator CS2working. But every time when I wanted to save a file it gave me a lot of errors, like “An unknown error has occurred”, or “Can’t finish previewing. There isn’t enough memory. ID = -108″. When I close that box I get the windows message “Adobe Illustrator has encountered a problem and needs to close….”. I couldn’t save in .ai, .pdf or .eps! I have played with the settings such as saving as .ai with .pdf option turned off but nothing seems to work. I’ve tried reinstalling, I deleted every file and install it again but nothing seems to work until I found some solutions on the web!
- Corrupted Preferences File:
- Missing CMaps files!
So I searched again and I discovered that instead of having over 160 something fonts in my adobe required fonts folder, which is located in:
The single most common problem cause, on any platform, is a corrupted preferences file. I use a mac so I’m not sure about PC but I thinks it’s called “aiprefs” on pc. You can delete that. Illustrator will recreate that folder when you launch Illustrator again.
So, where can you find the aiprefs file? You can find the AIPrefs file in WinXP under:
Documents and Settings - (user) - Application Data - Adobe - Adobe Illustrator CS2 Settings.
In Windows Vista you can find the Aiprefs file under: (NOTE: I’m not sure if this is correct, cause I don’t use Vista yet, But if you do, just take a look for me and let me know if the path and the files are simply there!)
C:\Users\
\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS2 Settings
So, I deleted the file, (actually I deleted the whole Adobe dir, just to make sure everything was alright!), restart the computer and tried to save a file again but it didn’t worked!
For some this was the right solution, and it did helped them, but not for me! Cause there’s also another way why you can’t save a file in Illustrator!
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Fonts\Reqrd\CMaps
but I just had 1!! So I checked this folder on another machine and it did contain a lot of more files. So I copied the folder and put it on my own machine and everything worked again! Anyway, if you’re having the same problem, then you can follow this steps:
1. Download a working CMaps folder by clicking on the link below
Zipped CMaps folder
2. Unzip the file.
3. Replace your existing CMaps folder with the CMaps folder you just unzipped.
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Fonts\Reqrd\CMaps
That did the trick for me, so I hope it also helps you out! You can check Adobe site for more info! ![]()

Wow, thanks so much!! You totally fixed the problem.
One problem though, your link to the CMaps zip file wasn’t quite right. Here’s the correct link.
Hello Dylan,
It took me some time time to find this out, but I’m glad that I could help you!
Thanx for the bad link, I’ve replaced it with the correct one!
