Never Forget To Check Your Passport!

Posted By: Wednesday 23 January 2008 5 Comments

In case you didn’t know, I work at the Eindhoven Airport, during the work yesterday something funny, actually stupid happened! Usually before boarding the passengers have walk through the gate and getting there passports /ID cards checked. At this point it turned out that some guy didn’t had a valid passport and that his passport was expired! So obviously he couldn’t travel to his destination and we had to search his luggage in the plain and give it back to him! Ok, This time it was easy to find his luggage, but for example in the summer time, when everybody goes on holiday with a lot of luggages… It would be a real pain in the ass to find a luggage!

Why am I telling you this? Let this be a great tip and lesson to you to check your passport/ID card before you want to travel! And by before I don’t mean a day or two before your flight, but a month or so, maybe even when you book your vacation! This way you have enough time to apply for a new passport/ID card when needed and have it ready on time! Otherwise you wouldn’t be able to continue your travel and the guys at the airport have to go through a lot of trouble finding your luggage back!

  1. Excellent advice. It really is a bit important to make sure you can actually get into another country before booking a flight to it.

Yes indeed! It’s a very small thing to do, but a lot of people forget it.

    How stupid can one be?
We had a special fool on the last plane to Korea.
Trouble in Love Life and they let him off the plane…..took only an hour to get the luggage…. :???:

How could you not prepare to travel by checking that all your papers are in order? Thats just common sense.
I remember when I was last in Europe I kept wanting to get my passport stamped at the various airports, train stations etc. I found that not a lot of places actually stamp your passport. From that trip the only stamp I got was from Croatia. I wonder if things have changed.

2 Nicole: Last summer there was this drunk guy, and they couldn’t take him in the plain to Greece. The plain was already loaded, and the passenger were waiting. So my colleagues had to search and find the guy’s luggage, which took more than 1,30 hours! And the passengers were pissed at this guy! (which is just understandable!

2 Ben: Yes, common sense! That’s actually the first thing I check when I have booked a trip or holiday!

Things have changed when it comes to traveling with air plains! The security in the airports is much better now and every single luggage with even a little strange thing in it will be checked manually. On the other hand, traveling with car, bus or train in Europe is made much easier due to EU. There are almost no border controls and with the ID card which we all have we can travel within 24 EU countries.
