How To Create An Invisible Folder

Posted By: Thursday 22 May 2008 10 Comments

Yes, it’s possible to create an invisible folder on your computer and as you can’t see the folder, if you don’t know where it is, you can’t access it!
Some people might know this, and some people don’t, anyway a great tip if you want to hide some files from your boss or your girlfriend.

Making an invisible folder is very easy:

1. Right click any where you want the invisible folder to be, go to New, then click on Folder.

2. Now you have to give the folder the following name: (make sure your numlock is on) hold Alt and press 0160 or ALT and press 255. Now release ALT. This should make a character that looks like a space, but it isn’t.

3. Now right click the folder you just made and go to properties. Then go to the Customize tab -> Change Icon button. Scroll through the icons until you find one that has no image. See the image below:

4. Hit OK twice and you have an invisible folder!

Now you can put anything you want in the folder.
If you can’t find it, just select the entire folder/desktop and there will be a little blue rectangle below the invisible folder.
You can also access the folder by entering the path of the invisible folder in the address bar!

NOTE: If you put it on your desktop it might show the folder for a second or two upon start up. For this reason I recommend putting it inside another folder.

2 DaKeY: If renaming the directory doesn’t work, you can restart your pc and try to delete it again or use this freeware application called Unlocker!

    Sneaky!

Reminds me of that hiding of text document in a jpg file trick. Ooh, how about a hidden text file inside a jpeg file that is completely hidden, or does this only work for folders?

    I’m getting paranoid now

    Hello Jonny,

This only works for folders as fas as I know. But I know about the jpg tricks too! :D A great idea for a next post! ;)
