When using computers one thing is really importent: Making backups! Cause you simply don’t want to lose all your pictures, mp3’s, documents etc.
Off course you can make backup manually, file or folders at a time, but this can be time consuming and not a very safe method cause. There’s always a file or folder which you forgot to backup! I’ve been there myself a couple of times and I can tell you this: that pissed me off! ![]()
However there are a lot of software (both shareware and freeware) which can do the job for you. One of those freeware tools is Cobian Backup.
Cobian Backup is very easy to use. It allows you to build a backup task. In the task you can adjust settings like:
- Including subdirectories
- Creating separated backups using timestamps. (Which is just great in my opinion!)
- Use file attributes logic and more!
But that’s not all! In the task (you can have multiple tasks if you want) you can specify:
- Which files and folder you want to backup (the source) and the destination of your backup.
- Making a Daily, weekly, monthly, Yearly, Timer and manually schedule for you backup.
- Compression methode
- Encryption type if needed.
So when you have build your task you can make a backup by pressing a single button. This way you’re sure that you’ve selected every file and folder. When you’re backup has been created you can keep the backup on a save place like burning it on a dvd or on an external harddrive in case you ever need to restore them.
I forgot to mention that you can use Cobain Backup to backup your files and directories to other computers in your network and also backup to a FTP server.
The program uses very few resources and can be running on the background on your system.

I might have to check this out. Looks like a good app…
This looks great. Thanks a lot for the link. I have been using my new 2G USB memory stick but I won’t fit everything on that will I?
I’ll use it as well.

Thanks for the heads-up on this. Backups are one of those tasks we so often overlook until it is too late. I will check this application out, I love the price.

It is a good application! It’s very easy to use!
2 Jenny:
I don’t know how much stuff you have saved on your computer. 2 GB won’t do any trick for me! My images are 6 GB, My documents (school stuff, site backup’s etc) are about 4 G…
And I even didn’t count my music with it!
2 Sailor:
Yep, and with this program you can even schedule your backup so you’ll never forget to make a backup ever again!
The price, yeah I love it too!
It would be nice if “PC backup” was specified in the story. The assumption that everyone uses a PC is somewhat offensive to me. SuperDuper (shirt-pocket.com) is an excellent Mac backup solution.
Technology Guides last blog post..How Technology Changed Currency Exchange
Well, To be honest Technology Guide.. I’m using a PC and not a Mac..
So first: I don’t have that much experience with Mac and/or any software which runs on a Mac.
Second: All the stuff you can find on BioTecK.net are the stuff which I’ve been using or have tested so that’s why I write about PC stuff. I use PC and that’s why I write about it…
So don’t be offended.. I just don’t use Mac!
