Wow, I didn’t know about about .museum. That must be the longest TLD there is right?

Interesting post. I didn’t know there are so many extensions besides the dot com and dot nets.

By the way, I have linked to your blog. Cheers.

Hello, It’s very useful to explain that to readers.
I have just noticed that my today’s post is almost on the same topic. Basically I’m explaining the importance of having those extensions.

2 Toronto Search Engine Optimization:
Yeah.. I guess so.. :D It’s also expensive to register such domain name.. It costs $200.00 for a 2 year registration term! ;)

2 Nicole:
Uhm.. Just before I registered BioTecK.net I wanted to know my choices for a domain name extension and then I found this somewhere on a ISP list of domain name extension which you could register..

Some of them I knew before but some of them were new for me too.

2 Jeflin:
Cool, thnx for linking to my blog! :D Beside the .com, .net almost every country got it’s own domain name extension.. :)

2 Luke Zet:
It’s very important to choose your domain name wisely indeed. Before having BioTecK.net I used to blog at BioTecK.nl (Yep, The Netherlands!). In the beginning it was fine cause I wanted to blog in Dutch.. But when I started to blog in English I noticed that I didn’t had much readers, subscriptions and my favorite one: Comments…
So I decided to change that and right now I’ve a lot more visitors, 51 subscriptions and a lot of people who’re kind enough to leave comments. So it’s very important to choose your domain name wisely! ;)

2 Heidi:
I’m glad that I could give you valuable information. :D As you can see there are a lot other domain name extensions beside .com. :D

These are not called domain name extensions but rather top-level domains (TLDs).

I suppose all these extensions are just guidelines really. For example, my site is a .com but it is not a commercial site. It is handy to find all of these listed in one place like this.

Thnx! I had a wonderful day! :D
I have heard rumors about some new domain name extension such as .sex, .crap etc.. :S

2 Tazdog:
Thnx a lot! Have a nice weekend too.

2 Sailor:
You’re right. If you got a .com it doesn’t mean that you have a commercial site but .com stands for commercial.

I just read recently that .TV is actually the extension for a very small country so they started selling off domain names for television which is what we now associate that extension with.

It’s actually for a country (i’ll have to look up which one).

Don’t forget to mention how much it might cost to GET one of these extensions….

Hello Pam,

I know about .tv and you’re right.
You might have overlooked it but I have it listed in the International domain name extension as well as domain name extension sorted by extension. :)
.tv stands for: Tanzania.

About the costs: It’s not that much to get your own domain name. I have paid €15 for my .net and the same amount for my old domain name extension .nl. So it’s not that much.. ;)
It’s the hosting part which can be expensive.

You misunderstand. If I wanted to buy “.pam” or something, an actual EXTENSION, it would be a LOT more than the cost of getting ahold of a domain name on ‘.com’ or ‘.net’ or even ‘.tv’ THAT is what I thought was interesting.

I pondered getting one recently… I don’t know all the ins & outs so I’m probably going to focus on higher priority things for me for the moment.

Thanks for writing,

Pam Hoffman

Hello Pam,

I’m sure that some of the domain name extensions can be more expensive then other ones, but I was actually talking about getting a .nl, .net, .org, .com domain name extensions.. :)

I’ve read that it’s possible to register ANY domain name extension if you’re willing to pay $100,000.
So you’re right about the high cost! ;)
