Cuil Is Ready To Use

Posted By: BioTecK on Thursday 31 July 2008 with 15 Comments

Some time ago I wrote a post about Cuil named: Life After Google With Cuil?. Back then it wasn’t possible to use this new search engine, but today I noticed that it’s up and running! As I was curious about this I wanted to check it out.

Cuil wants to compete with Google and there for I’m going to compare it with Google.
While Google’s background color is White, Cuil’s background color is black.

You can display Cuil results in 2 columns or in 3 (This is a part which I don’t like.. I like the result to be in a list like Google. Ok maybe this is because I’m not used to it.. ) and some of the results have a image attached to it.
Like Google, you have the option of using ‘Safe Search’. Cuil offers a typing suggestion tool too but as I don’t like this so I have turned it off immediately!

Anyway, when I did a search on BioTecK I noticed that some of the image’s attached to the search result are mixed up, but I guess that’s just a bug that will be fixed in the future. Another thing which I noticed was that none of the results pointed to BioTecK.net while when I do the same in Google BioTecK.net appears in the second place. So that did disappoint me!

So is there life after Google with Cuil? I honestly don’t know.. It can be a good competitor to Google but with Google being the default search engine for a lot of people, it’s going to be tough for Cuil. Anyway, Cuil hasn’t quite convinced me so I’ll keep using Google as my default search engine..

If you’re interested about Cuil, check it out your self: Cuil.

I just think it\’s great to have someone else in the game, hopefully a serious contender. Why should Google get to have all the fun?

I think it is something opposite to Google and it can take many years to go at that level. I was amazed to see the black interface there on cuil. One of my site is ranked # 1 for a keyword which has more than 20 million results in Google but cuil shows only 19 results. It shows that cuil is still in its beginning era.

I think Cuil has some bugs but that it will be fixed in the future, so that’s why you didn’t saw it in the beginning Chetan Gole.

Give it some time Eddy Wijaya. If Cuil wants to compete with Google they have to crawl the web, which will be taking a lot of time I guess!

I agree with you Hye Munar. As a matter of fact I don’t like black background on any site, but that’s just me! ;) Anyway, Just like you, Google is still my default search engine..

I agree with you too Fitness Diva but like I mentioned in my post, It’s going to though for Cuil. They have to convince everyone that they’re better than Google and that’s going to take a lot of time.

Cuil is in it’s beginning era Flusche. Like I said to Hye Munar & The Fitness Diva; Cuil have to crawl a lot of websites/blogs and it has to convince everyone to try and use Cuil instead of Google. So all we can do is wait and see which one is going to “win”.

Yeah, I saw it Shaxx. First a post about me helping you and now this! :D You really flatter me! ;) Thnx a lot buddy!

I think that with time cuil will die a natural death. At the moment, I don’t see anyone capable of competing with the big G.Not even the combination of Yahoo! Search and Microsoft.Google is just too much!

They should start it with some home work and some more hard work. Try to search the term “cuil” in it and it can’t find itself. That’s not fair.

  • BioTecK (author) said:

I just tried it and it can find it self Schuppen. But I agree with you that they have to do a lot of hard & home work. I mean Google is available in almost every language…See to defeat that!

The best thing I discovered, They keep it as simple as Google. Another good thing, their search results style. I can see much more details as compared to Google. I think they are succeeded to utilize the free space in more efficient way. Although it can be difficult for them to get some good traffic or users at the moment but I think they will have a very bright future.

Hmm.. I don’t agree with you Elib. I like the results as shown in Google, maybe I’m used to it..
However they can have a future with a lot of hard work..

Do you people think that we need more search engines? Who like to search a term other than Google? I think it is just a failure. If Yahoo, MSN, ALTAVISTA, ASK can’t beat it then who else would be. On the other hand, if we shall not compare it with Google, Perhaps it will be a good search engine after 15-20 years. Do you people try viewzi? I think it is the best in showing you results(i am talking about its design).
