Better Gmail 2

Posted By: BioTecK on Thursday 28 August 2008 with 13 Comments

Is Firefox your favorite browser and do you have a Gmail account? If you’ve answered both of those questions with a yes then you’ve got to try Better Gmail 2 Add-on for Firefox.

But what does Better Gmail 2 do? Better Gmail 2 adds some useful extra features like:

  • Forcing Gmail to use https instead of http
NOTE: You can change this also in Gmail settings. Log in your Gmail account, then Click on Settings at the top of the page. Set the Browser configuration to ‘Always use https.’)
  • Highlight message rows as you roll over them
  • Adds attachment file type icons
  • Appends an easy filter creation button on a message
  • Display the full details of the top messages in a conversation
  • Inserts cursor after the quoted message in plain text replies
  • Lists labels in a folder-like hierarchy
  • Hides Gmail’s Spam message count
  • And adds skins to Gmail

I’m using this great add-on for some time and I’ve got to say: I love it! It gives you some extra options which I really like.

Once you have installed Better Gmail 2, go to your Gmail account to see the changes. To turn a feature on or off, you can check the extension’s Preferences dialog and select or deselect the appropriate check boxes. Refresh Gmail to see the changes.
NOTE: This add-on is only compatible with the new Gmail interface.

It’s a great add-on for Firefox. It gives you the ability to try another skins for your Gmail, but even with this option I love the original skin AxioBlogger.

Yes, Shaxx. This is because Gmail uses a cookie. When you log into your Gmail account, the cookie will store your information on your computer. So if someone access your computer, they can gain access to your information.

To be honest, I don’t use any pluging which allows the commentators to use XHTML codes. If I’m not mistaken, you can use XHTML codes by default! ;)

Wow, that’s really cool. I’ll have to go take a looksee. I’ve already forced the https because security is really important with the work that I do.

If you use Gmail on other computer which don’t have the Better Gmail 2 Add-on installed, then it’s better to change this in your Gmail settings An American In France. To do this just log in your Gmail account, then Click on Settings at the top of the page. Set the Browser configuration to ‘Always use https.’

Nope, no plugin Shaxx! :D Easy right!?

Ok, dummy question and outing that I\’m not a nerd: what is the difference between http and https?
And is gmail2 the new browser they just launched or an add on (I guess an add on – have you tried the browser yet?)?

Did you read about the new version of Picasa?
As soon as my stupid firewall is updated, I\’ll have a look at that :D

No, Google’s new browsers is called: Chrome. I’ve tested it and it’s a fine browser but I think I’ll stick to Firefox as long as Chrome is Beta!

New version of Picasa? Nope, I’ve used it once 2 or 3 years ago. I use ACDSee for my picture, ok this is not freeware but I sure like the program. If you’re working a lot with pictures (and I know you do! ) give it a try and use a trial of ACDSee! ;)

    Thanks for the enlightenment!
I will sure check that add-on!
Nah, I stick with firefox, that’s just working Best for me.

I use picasa to quick search my pics and archive them. Wanted to get Lightroom while in Kuwait, but they locked down those…uhm…security copies ;)
    Got PS CS2 though :)
Work with that most of the time.
Some goofy stuff I still do with Paintshop and Gimp.
PS is one program I need to read a manual to go in deep – and I am a) lazy and b) hate manuals ;)

Well Tata, Thunderbird is an e-mail client and this is just an add-on for Firefox so you can’t compare them.

No problem Nicole. Lightroom, haven’t try it yet but for what I’ve heard it’s a great peace of software.
That’s the bad thing about illegal copies.

Yeah CS2 works pretty well, had some troubles with Illustrator and Photoshop but I could fix those.
By the way: You really don’t want to read the Photoshop manual! It’s a pain in the ass! Just follow it. Use tutorials to understand and learn Photoshop, that’s what I did!
