As I wrote yesterday something bad happened to me. I had accidentally deleted ALL my images an my video’s and then even emptied my recycle bin without being careful! I know.. it’s stupid!
I mean how did I manage to make a mistake like this? I mean deleting almost 10 GB’s of stuff!
Anyway.. When I found out about this I was really pissed, I mean REALLY pissed. I knew that I had a backup of my images but that was more then 6 months old but ok.. That would be a start, right? So I started to look for the dvd’s and finally I found them!
After I found the dvd’s I let a recovery software scan my harddisk to find those accidentally deleted files. After more than 13
hours and more than 15 millions files being scanned by the recovery software I was able to get back ALL my images and video’s!
So after when I had recovered everything back, the first thing I did was: yes indeed: A backup!
So I’m happy again and this was a great lesson for me (and perhaps for you too!) don’t forget to make backups regularly!

nothing is every gone, even when you delete it. kind of scares me a bit.
glad you got your images back. i upload my images to a free service as well such as shutterfly….i do use the paid service of flickr, but shutterfly is free. can’t hurt to have them in another location?
Naturals last blog post..EntreCard Therapy
You’re right Natural. The thing however is that when something like this happens, you’re not thinking logic at all.. All you think about is how stupid it is, and the stuff you have deleted.
So, from now on I’ll make backups more often. Shutterfly. I’m going to check it out! Thnx for the suggestion!
That’s what they call “s**t happens”! hahah… but it is good that you have your backup. Most people would just cry their eyes out….
I am glad you managed to retrieve your files. Since reading your last post on this topic I copied all my photos to to an external disk. I am also going to look into Shutterfly as suggested by Natural.
At least when you delete something on a windows machine you can still recover it - delete something on a mac and it’s gone forever! I have to be very careful each time I empty the Trash
Stephens last blog post..Sunrise Pictures
You’re probably right Shaxx. However… me and crying? Nooo..
Anyway, I’m glad that I have everything back and that I have made a huge backup again!
Yeah, I’m really happy about this too Lyndi. I knew this would be a good reminder to everybody who reads my blog!
Making backups is indeed very important!
Another reason why I don’t like working with a mac!
Just kidding Stephen. But can’t you recover on a mac? That’s a bit strange, isn’t it?
My computer crashed the other day. I was so worried with my files because I did not back up them. I was so thankful because I was able to access the Last Known Good Configuration.
Now, I can breath, but promised myself I will backup my files at least once a day.
Hye Munars last blog post..PS3 Update 2.43 Download (Playstation 3 Firmware Update 2.43)
A computer crashing is a bad thing.. I know all about it!
Once a day? That’s just too much for me Hye Munar. Once in a month will do the trick for me!
At least do it once a day. It’s hard to retrieve files if we don’t have back up.
You’re very lucky as to having recovered your deleted files. Some people aren’t that lucky or do not know how to recover deleted files. Recently, I’ve written up a 3 part guide, which still isn’t complete, about backing up your data. If you or anyone else is interested, you can check it out at my blog here:
Part 1: The Importance of Backups
BTW, Nice theme. John
Once a day is a good idea if I buy an external harddrive or a NAS system Teak Furniture, Otherwise I have to burn it on a dvd every day and that’s going to cost me a lot of money!
Thnx!
and you’re right John D. Recovering deleted files can be very though, definitely if you don’t know how to begin, which software to choose etc! Going to check your post now!
