There are times when you want to convert a file without the need to download and install a software. For example if you are at work where you can’t install a software because you don’t have administrator rights.

Some days ago I received a word document with the .docx extension and I knew that I couldn’t open it on the computer which I was working on, because it didn’t had Office 2007 installed and I couldn’t install the Office Compatibility Pack. As I needed that document I start looking for a solution on Google and I found the solution for my problem: Zamzar.

Zamzar.com is a free file conversion where you can convert your file for free! Zamzar supports conversion between a wide variety of different file formats which can be found here.

Like I mentioned, Zamzar is free to use but it has it’s own limitation; You don’t have priority file conversion, converting files with maximum size of 100 mb, up to 5 conversion at the time and you don’t have any online storage. There are some other limitation but that’s not very important, in my opinion, such as: not having a secure conversion (128 bit SSL), not being able to manage your files with a personal inbox and renaming & deleting your files. So if you’re good with those and you just want to have your file converted then you should give it a try.

It works really easy:

  1. Select files or URL to convert
  2. Choose the format to convert to
  3. Enter your email address to receive converted files
  4. Convert
  5. Check your inbox for your converted file and that’s it!

I’ve be trying to remember the name of that site for so long - I stmbled it once but didn’t rate it and then couldn’t find it again! It’s been a hassle saver more than once for me. Thank for this excellent reminder :)
