Are you tired of using Adobe’s Acrobat Reader because it’s slow and it needs a lot of time to open your PDF documents? Then you have to try Foxit Reader.

Foxit Reader is a free PDF document viewer which is MUCH faster then Adobe Acrobat Reader. Some features of Foxit Reader:

  • Incredibly small: Foxit is just 2.55 MB while Acrobat Reader is about 25 MB!
  • It’s fast: When you run Foxit Reader, it launches much faster! No splash windows displaying company logo, author names, etc.
  • Annotation tool: You can annotate or comment on a PDF document when you are reading it. This option is only available in Acrobat Reader Pro version but Foxit Reader allows you to draw graphics, highlight text, type text and make notes on a PDF document and then print out or save the annotated document.
  • Text converter: You may convert the whole PDF document into a simple text file.
  • High security and privacy: While other PDF readers often silently connect to the Internet in the background without users permission, Foxit PDF Reader doesn’t do that.
  • Tabbed Viewer: you can open several PDF’s in the same window, much like Firefox! Something which I really like!

Like I said, If you’re fed up with Acrobat Reader and you want to try something better, then you really should try Foxit Reader!

I must give this a try. Hopefully it does not have to be upgraded as often as Adobe Acrobat Reader has to. Thanks.

If you need to view pdf file only,no need to install latest Adobe’s Acrobat Reader .

I install Acrobat reader 5.05 old version, the speed as fast as Foxit reader.you can download old version from
http://www.oldapps.com/acrobat_reader.htm

I notice that if use Foxit reader to print out having some layout problem.

I can imagine that R1ooooo. Acrobat reader is really slow!

Well, I have Foxit Reader running for a couple of week now Lyndi and so far no updates! ;)

Your welcome Kate. Like I mentioned in the post, being able to add notes and comments on a PDF is only available on Acrobat Reader Pro version which is really expensive! ;)

Didn’t knew that Wongsk, but why should you use Acrobat 5.5 while you can use Foxit which comes with some nice features? ;)

Great tip! Can you comment on how reliable it is in your experience? The thing I dislike most about the Adobe Reader is that it is responsible for the vast majority of my browser crashes. I installed the PDF download plugin to keep Adobe from running inside Firefox, but Adobe can still break Internet Explorer.

Well, in my opinion it’s a great replacement for Acrobat Reader and it’s reliable! I have been using if for a couple of weeks and so far it’s just perfect. ;)

About your crashes inside Internet Explorer, I suggest you start using Firefox and install PDF Download add on for Firefox.

Hmm.. Didn’t knew that Great Registry Hacks. If it’s true what your saying then people can use it as a portable application too!

Foxit is a breath of fresh air over Acrobat. It’s one of few freeware that I would really recommend paying for.

I’ve been using Foxit for years. It is SO much faster than Adobe Acrobat. I think they recently added an add-on feature to make the .pdfs editable, too.
