UAC, better known as User Access Control is a new feature of Windows Vista. UAC is meant to improve the security of your system. Each time an application is installed or whenever an important system change is made by the user or by a running process, the screen is blacked out and temporarily disabled and a dialog is shown with the choices to allow or deny the action, as shown as below.

If you aren’t logged as an administrator, Windows Vista will also ask for the administrator password. Like mentioned before this is to improve the security of your system, however if you are an experienced power user it is quite likely that you find UAC extremely annoying, just like me!
Before I go on; Disabling UAC is not recommended by Microsoft because it can make your system unstable, however in my case I haven’t experienced anything weird and my system is very stable!
There are many ways to disable UAC, but I prefer this method. Even after rebooting your system, there is no way that UAC will ever start again.
- Press Windows Key + R in order to load the run box.
- Type “msconfig” in the run box, or in the search box in Vista Start menu, to load MS config and click OK.
- Once MSConfig is loaded, click on the Tools menu.
- Select Disable UAC in the menu then click OK.
- By doing this, you’ll disable UAC. If you wish to re-enable UAC, follow the steps above but click Enable UAC instead.
You can also enable or disable UAC from the Control Panel if you want to.
- Type UAC in the search box, Click on the first result which will be: “User Accounts – Turn User Account Control (UAC) on or off.”
- The UAC window will open. Deselect the option Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer and press the OK button, as shows as below, and your done!

Which method you prefer to use, Windows Vista needs to be restarted. After the restart, UAC will be disabled and you’ll be done with those annoying prompts!

Yes, the UAC can get very annoying. Even though it does provide better security, I still don’t like the trade off. Thanks for sharing this tip, should help a lot of people using Vista!

Great post! Thanks for the info about User Access Control.
I turned that off almost immediately when I got my Vista as it was really annoying to have it on.

Hi Beauty Trista. I’m fine, how are you?! The “U drop I follow” badge it’s just a jpg file which you can place above, below or anywhere near your EC widget. You can use mine, just click here, save the badge on your computer and upload it to your server.
Hi Lexan! Sure no problem at all! Nope, It won’t be the last time!
You’re right John D! UAC IS very annoying and I don’t believe that it provides better security, all it does is making people crazy!
Sure, no problem Vev from teak furniture!
LOL.. Same here Shaxx… I just had it on for 2 minutes and then I turn it off for good!
When I first started using Vista, I was very annoyed with the user access control, so I shut it off. I have very good anti virus and spyware software installed on my PC, and I am very careful of downloads, emails and where I surf. The system is more protected if you leave the user access control on, but very annoying. If I get an Trojan and it executes, it is my own fault because I have shut own the user access control.
If you are a newbie, I would leave it on until you become familiar what should execute on your system.
I have no problem at all always letting that option to ask me, then I feel more safe.
Having a good antivirus and spyware software is always a must Madmouse SEO Blog on any OS.
And as long as your careful with emails, downloads and sites you visit, then your good and you don’t have anything to fear!
I’m glad you don’t find that annoying Mac @ Motorcycle Fairings..
