Yeah! I just installed Windows 7 Ultimate on my PC. As you might know I used to have Vista running on my PC (for more then 1 year without any troubles) but with the Windows 7 being released I just had to give it a try! I already had heard a lot of good things about Windows 7 so you can imagine that I was very curious.

After backing up the important files and folders I formatted my HD and started to install Windows 7 x64 bits. I don’t know why but I had never installed a x64bits OS on my PC before so with Windows 7 I thought… Why not give x64bit a try? I mean I do have the hardware parts for it! So the installation started and I must say that the installation only took about 30 minutes which is really fast!

Once the setup was done and Windows 7 was loaded I noticed that all of the drivers of my CPU chipset, video drivers etc was already installed! I mean I was able to work with Windows 7 Ultimate almost immediately. Here below a screenshot of Windows 7 Ultimate x64.

With Windows 7 some small things have changes.. One of the good changes is that you can re-arrange every system try icons. Just drag and drop them into the order you like! This is definitely one of the things which I’ve missed in the past Windows versions…

My first impression of Windows 7 is that it’s a great improvement compared to Vista. So far everything is working just fine. It has also improved performance, speed and feels much more stable then Vista.  I also like the improved taskbar and some other features!

Hi Verona.. Well, yes. Windows 7 feels definitely more stable and faster compared to Vista. If you’re still using Vista: Don’t wait any longer and give Windows 7 a try!

I am preparing to upgrade to 7 x64 this week from Vista. My opinion is that anything has to be better.

I am really concerned about the upgrade. So I am backing everything up and taking it slow. Not looking forward to it though…

I have Vista and I don’t see many additions to it other than the speed. I’ll stick with Vista until Windows 7 is a bit more affordable.

Hmm…
My verdict:
Interestingly the newer versions of windows seem to import a lot of ideas n toolz from linux…
Although windows 7 is faster than vista, it has its own share of problems. I’ll rate fedora or kubuntu as the real funky operating systems that any average pc user should use…

It is always great when you don’t have to hunt down drivers after a clean install!

I got my wife a new laptop for Christmas and it has Win 7 x 64 bit. I’m relieved to hear the good reviews for Win 7 because I had not performed as much research as I normally do when purchasing a new PC.
