Protect Your PC With Microsoft Security Essentials!

After using NOD32 Anti virus for the last 6 or 7 years, it was “time” to give another Anti-virus software a try!

So at the time that I installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64 bits on my PC, I had to renew my license for NOD32. It was also about the same time when I heard from our system administrator that he was running Microsoft Security Essentials and he recommended me to install it too and that’s what I did.

At first I was really sceptic about MSE and didn’t thought it was a good product but now after almost having it installed on my pc for 1 year; I must say: I like it!

MSE has recently being certified by AV-Test.org which is a group with more than 15 years of experience in the area of anti-virus research and data security. In their test various anti-virus applications were scored from 0.0 (worst) to 6.0 (best) and MSE scored a 4.0 in Protection, a 4.5 in Repair and a 5.5 in Usability, so a great result.

MSE has a very simple user interface and is also pretty simple to use as it doesn’t involve any complex options as you can see in the screenshot here below.

A thing which I was really worried about was the use of  system resources with MSE. I mean I was used to NOD32 which didn’t use that much system resource but MSE is actually doing a great job here as well! When performing a “Full Scan” your system does get a bit slower but you can just surf on the internet without your PC freezing.

MSE is always scanning the files in the background and it has helped me a lot by alerting me when downloading zip files. The Alert Threats which MSE shows are usually being quarantined right a way but you can change how MSE should behave with threats in the Settings screen.

Microsoft Security Essentials is a free software, well at least if you have a genuine Windows version running! The Security Definition Updates will be installed daily as long as you have MSE installed on your PC and off course if you have genuine Windows running!
