StreamRipper: Save What Your Stream

Posted By: Monday 7 February 2011 One Comment

Do you remember the times when we had cassette tapes and cassette players? I still remember my good old Sony Walkman which I often used to play songs which I had recorded from radio earlier.

Now a days none of us have a cassette tape or even a cassette player anymore and we have replaced our Walkman’s with iPod’s. A lot has changed but we have never stopped listing to radio stations but recording songs from radio isn’t easy as it once was. However that’s not entirely true when using Streamripper.

Streatripper is a great add-on for Winamp and what it basically does is, it rips songs from the streams you’re listing to. That is if the stream is in MP3, AAC or OGG. If the stream you want to rip/download is in one of the formats above then the rest is easy! There is also a stand alone application available, but I like the plugin version better. This as  Streamripper interface automatically starts when opening Winamp making it easier to record/rip.

How it works?
Streamripper is easy in use. Just download and install it. Once installed it will be launched whenever you start Winamp. Before using Streamripper I would check out the options and configure the output folder. This is where the ripped files will be downloaded at. You can check the other options if you like but for me the standard configuration is just fine.

Now all you need to do is, tune in to your favorite radio station, turn Winamp + Streamripper on and just enjoy the music and wait. After some time you’ll see that the output folder is filled with ripped music.

NOTE:
Streamripper has been tested on my PC with an old version of Winamp; V2.78c but it should also work with the newer version of Winamp.
